I知 new Hi everyone.

I知 thinking of selling scrap metal to subsidies my income,
I致e been doing some reading online to try and get a better idea
of what I知 getting into.

One thing I know is when something looks fairly simple it becomes totally different
and more complicated once you get into it.

I do have a pickup but not sure what other tools are worth investing in
any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I do have a bunch of questions but to keep it short I will just list
The major pro and con on my mind

Con: the nearest scrap yard is 45 kilometers away. I know BAD.
pro in my mind: I cant seem to find anyone in my area doing this, its all
dump runs and odd jobs. Population of my town is about 70 thousand.

anyway thanks everyone. Glad to be a member.

Welcome.

Tool wise, a wrecking bar, 3lb. engineers hammer, vise grips and a pair of side-cutting dike pliers go a long way. Not much you can't do with these. Also, a cordless Sawzall will pay for itself in the long run. Not sure what type of truck your running, but consider a trailer to pull behind. Either something simple like a 5x10 utility or step up to a dump bed with high side walls. I bought mine used, and within a year the scrap I hauled with it paid for it and then some.

Since your yard is a little far, save up your loads until your maxed out, and be sure to call ahead and confirm prices. Sometimes it's worth it to hoard your stash while you wait for prices to climb. I had brass candlesticks and decorate duck heads stacked up to the ceiling before yellow brass finally hit my $1.45 price point, and I cashed those suckers in. Good luck with it, have fun, be safe and absorb as much as you can from the members here.

Thanks Heartkill.
I like the idea of a trailer my truck is an older f150 5 speed with the inline six,
good on gas but not on the payload. I have a trailer made out of and old truck box,
thinking I値l start with that.
One thing im toying with is charging something real low like $5.00 a stop. Not sure what can of worms that would open though.

An angle grinder with a thin metal cutting blade is very worth having. I got mine for $20 on sale at Harbour Freight. The other thing that is a true must have is a magnet. If a magnet won't stick to it it's usually worth more money!

Are you throwing that out?
