Poll Question:
I was going through a box of pennies and found more 2010 pennies than 2009, which got me thinking about how much longer they will be common. Anyone who collects needs four times as many 2009s as any other year and there weren't as many made as most years. So my question is:
When will less than half the $25 boxes of pennies have at least one 2009 cent in them?
They had some of the lowest mintages since the beginning of the memorial years. People are keeping them right now... but I don't think everyone will hold on to theirs for all that long. Once they realize they're not all going to be worth a buck each...
I think that way too many have already been saved by collectors and speculators, and they will never fetch much of a premium.
I have also noticed that a lot of the 2009's seen in circulation are discolored or corroded. They will remain in circulation as long as zinc cents continue to be used.
