Hi, all. For weeks,I have explored this forum and have been astounded by how many others are into penny hoarding. I began the hobby about a month ago, and came across the coinflation website, which led me to this one. Amazing what others have accomplished here!
After the first month of hand-sorting, I have so far collected over 5K coppers, along with a few dozen wheaties and foreigns from all over. Very addicting hobby indeed.
Anyway, I was going into one of my banks to collect more, and was informed that they did not have any left! Apparently, someone else in town has the same passion, and beat me to this batch. On to the next bank, then. Anyone else come across this obstacle?

Red King, welcome!
I have been doing this for a couple of months now myself. I haven't had that problem yet. I was told by one teller that she was glad to see me take penny rolls off her hands and could I come back and get more. So I obliged and ended up getting about $30 all copper 59-74.... |

They certainly have their visual appeal, though I've only been to each of them a few times. I'm north of Atlanta, in a very sprawled out suburban area. Traffic here is a royal PITA. |

Yeah, tellers love the reduced inventory to count and audit. My dump bank smiles, and doesn't seem to mind too much- though I keep the rolls under $100 (for now..)
For now, I have to keep this smaller-scale. Closing on a house purchase soon, I need as many FRNs as possible, but that doesn't mean I can't get a head start. |

We had a penny drive and the bank was without pennies for a while. |

you can usually order a few 100 dollars in pennies from a bank and then pick them up later, just make sure to pick them up the day that they want you to. |

That's a smarter way, and less time-consuming. Whenever I go in for more, I often end up waiting in front of the counter for a good 15 min. at least |

Welcome! Bad situation, but like they say, develop relationships and start ordering. The other day I walked into a bank I haven't been to in a while and they said "Thank God the penny guy is here!" They had $600 they needed me to cart off.

Copperhead, Heartkill, AG, nice to meet you. I'm from Gwinnett County. Whole lot of branches to plunder here, and I still get the strange facial expressions from the tellers when I pick up more.
Also, I've considered the Rydale sorter, but not sure if it is worth the $500 plus S/H. So far, hand sorting works, but always looking for faster ways.
BTW Copperhead, I've been to Rainy Mtn several times - love the scenery. |

Oh, also forgot to ask: How do members earn their stars and titles? Couldn't find the answer in FAQs. Is it solely based on # of posts? |

Yeah, simply hoarding right now. If not only for the copper, but the fact that there are only so many left in circulation. (Yes, billions, but that is relatively small compared to zincolns). As for storing, I keep them in airtight ziploc bags w/; air squeezed out. I figure it would prevent that nasty verdigris from spreading. Recently lost an ebay auction w/ 5K of them for $60.00. Bummer.. |

Lost count of how many times we went there growing up. |
