I’ve read the article from the Baltimore Sun, Dog Ate Your C-Note? Uncle Sam Might be Able to Help. The article stated:
“Change that's worn thin can be turned in to the Federal Reserve banks for full value. The U.S. Mint redeems mutilated or fused coins — a one-pound minimum — for the value of the metal.”

I wonder what the mint would do if you sent them one pound or more of fused copper cents? Would you receive the melt value of copper?

I just have a hard tim believing they will pay metal, just doesnt sound right. I really like the coppers (even the bent and uglies )so I wouldnt do it that but would love to try it with ugly zincs.

I send in mutilated batches every couple of months. You never fully get out what you send them. |

they use a formula that is supposed to reflect the current mix of coppers and zincs in circulation.
therefore, if you're heavy on coppers you lose out, send all zincs you should come out ahead.
You have to keep cents, nickels, and suzies/sacs/new dollar coins separate.
you can mix dimes, quarters, halves, and Ikes together ($20/Lb by weight) |
