So, I was working at a client site today when one of the ladies that works there came in said that the machine kept rejecting her dime. Being the hard at work type that I am (hehe) the opportunity didn't even register at first. Then, just as I realized what she said I was about to ask her to see it when their CFO, who was sitting right next to me, blurted out "Come over here. I'll trade you for another".
She said thanks and went back to the machine to get her Diet Coke.

The CFO turned to me while admiring his find and with a proud grin said "Yep, a silver 64" as if he thought I would know what he was talking about. But, I was screaming inside that if I had not been so focused on fixing a pressing issue of theirs, that dime would have been mine! I congratulated him on his cool find. He went on for five minutes explaining what it meant to have silver etc and that he must have 20-30 of these 90% dimes and at least 8 silver quarters.

So then I began to chuckle inside "yeh buddy, your going to need A LOT more than that" but didn't feel comfortable talking about how much I have or what I know about them etc. After all, he's the one who has to cut the check for my company's expensive fees.

So, the single dime by itself wasn't that big of a deal. Just the thought of finding one through casual life experiences would have been great. In the end I probably would have explained to the lady what it meant and why she should keep it and encourage her to aqcuire many many others just like it.

The first panacea for a mismanaged nation is inflation of the currency; second is war. Both bring a temporary (and false) prosperity; both bring a permanent ruin. But both are the refuge of political and economic opportunities.
