I was thinking about ordering large dollars from the bank. Anyone ever tried that? I wonder what the percentage of peace/ morgan old dollars would be in such an order? and the percentages of 40% silver Ikes would be? Then Once i managed to order these large dollars, how would I get them tunred into the bank? The coin machine won't take them? Any thoughts?

You can try but you probably will end up getting the presidentail dollars. Most tellers don't know what a "big dollar" is and most teller managers don't know that they can order Ikes. If you do end up ordering some and getting them the silver dollar % is going to be very very small.

Also only way to return them is to spend them or have the tellers count them out.

I have yet to be able to order Ike dollars; sometimes I buy the ones the tellers have on hand. Haven't found any silver Ikes yet.

You are probably better off ordering halves.

i actually researched this. there is a thread here about it. there is a fed publication that says they can actually be ordered. tellers don't know how to do it so your first hurdle is getting them to try, which requires them to figure out how to do it. where i live, they can actually order them but all they ever get is presidential dollars, so there is no point.

Buying:
Peace/Morgan G+ at $15.00
copper cents at 1.3X
wheat pennies at 3X

IKE dollars are not on their regular order list so they either have to mark IKE on the order sheet or call in for a specail request. They can order them but they don't like going through the extra effort. Also depending on where they get the coin they may not always have them so they will send presidentail dollasr instead.

Well, I am still a newbie at all this... but I spend them! Everyone loves it! The cashiers wow, and the other customers in line behind me buy them up from the cashiers once I am done! Now, I am talking about half dollars, not Ike's.

In fact, I use this to get them interested in helping me. I pull out an Ike and tell them I am really looking for large Ike dollars and ask if they would help me find them. I leave my card with the one's who say yes.

Filling up my trucks each week is about $160.00, then there is lunch out, then paying dump fees for my trash hauling, then groceries, etc.

I have a $500 dental crown scheduled for next week. Hahahaha! Guess how I will pay it?

Thanks for the thread. I am interested in finding more Ikes myself.

Where i'm located the tellers ask only to find they are not allowed to order them. It is news to me that tellers when ordering coin can write in, the other section large dollar coins.

I would search them non-stop since they sell above face on their own it would be a wonderful way to search. If only all half dollar coins carried a small premium over face.

Selling Copper cents. $0 FV available at 1.4xFV. Also interested in trading for wheat pennies and other coins Please pm me for requests or inquiries.

So circulated Ikes are worth more than face? I just spend the non-silver ones when I get them.

Not really that much of a premium, but imagine searching them in the 1000's each week and simply pawning them off to someone else for a slight profit. Beautiful.

I wish I knew where I could reliably dump Ikes at 1.2. I have a bank here that can order all I want, and I have seen them bring in bags for some other people; So where can I dump Ikes at 1.2?

You could always try this board. I bought some for 1.1 a while ago but have seen them go for more. I think they go for around 1.2 on ebay too.

It's funny this came up...not more than 2 days ago my dad asked me "do you think we can order the large dollars from the bank?". I told him I really wasnt sure...after reading this thread it seems like it might not be worth it (unless you have a buyer for your IKE's even at face value)

There's always buyers at face value. That's the best part of this investment - no downside!

I would say the shipping weight @ 1.2 would eat you up, if you sold them to someone then payed the shipping.
if they payed the shipping then it would be cost prohibitive for them, Ike`s are heavy.

Beau, I should have added that on ebay it was 1.2 plus shipping. So, figure, after fees , you will come out 5 to 10 ahead for 100 dollars that are "disposed of".

Are they easy to sell though or do you end up holding on to them?

Yo Lemon! Can you give us the thread you are speaking of? I too have had problems with tellers saying they would ask for dollar coins and only receive presidential dollars. The tellers told me they had no way to order the Ikes for me. I'd love to share the info. with them. I have a teller or two that would go the extra mile it's just that they think they are at a dead end. Many Thanks! Twenty

Just asked a teller that we have a good relationship with about this. She said she would see if she's able to do it. If she is we might order a box? How many come in a box? Do they even come in a box or just rolled?

I will let you know what happens with this.
