I've been wondering lately about the nickel and penny melt laws. One of the reasons the laws may be taken away is that because the copper pennies are no longer need for circulation because there are so few since they were minted 28 years ago. But if they want to take away the melting law on pennies because they are no longer needed wouldn't they have to take away the law on melting nickels? which i assume they wouldn't do because all nickels in circulation are ones that could be melted down, so because of that would they not lift the ban or would they make a new law allowing melting of pennies but not of nickels?
