The scrap yard says they will take it if it is cut in half. I'm considering filling it with water to get rid of any explosive potential, shooting it from a distance, and then using the holes as starter holes to saw it all the way in half. Is this feasible and/or even worth it? What sort of blade/tool should I use?

I don't mess with them as it's quite a bit of work for a small return. I guess if I had one I needed to get rid of, I'd do it. I won't pick one up though. |
Are you throwing that out? |

Eh, just shoot it in half. It would be a lot more fun that way, hehe. We shoot propane tanks to be taken to the scrapper. Not in half, but the yard only requires a hole or two, or a dozen, through and through.

Live free or die. Plain and simple.
"If you love wealth more than liberty, the tranquility of servitude better than the animating contest of freedom, depart from us in peace. We ask not your council or your arms. Crouch down and lick the hand that feeds you. May your chains rest lightly upon you and may posterity forget that you were our countrymen." - Samuel Adams |

Unfortunately our yard requires tanks to be completely cut in half. I had an aluminum oxygen tank I wanted to scrap, and I took it in as I had received it (attachment at top was removed, so it had a good size hole at top). The yard still said it had to be cut in half. It was worth the effort though as it was relatively heavy and my angle grinder with a metal cutting blade made short work of it. I agree with Flbandit, the return does not quite seem to be worth the effort. |
