Me personally I would tear it down component by component. You may have to get rid of the freon first which is a touchy act. Guys on here with lots more experience than me. If that is all the scrap you have, take it as is. Just my 2 cents.

Looking for a great summer read?? Stop by www.glennrambo.com You think the US/Mexican border is bad now??

You can take the water heater in as is. I would personally remove any brass that might be on the outside. Also most yards will not take the fridge unless the compressor is removed. This will entail a evac of the freon. Some folks have an outfit to reclaim it, some folks just cut the lines. Since you are down there removing the compressor you might as well remove all the copper tubing, as that will pay much better than the steel prices. Most yards will not take the compressor unless the compressor oil has been removed, so you can drill a couple of holes in it and drain the oil out. This oil then can be recycled, just like you would do with motor oil.

Some yard will not take the newer dishwashers as they have too much plastic. If your tank is steel you are fine if not call around...

Exactly, the yard I frequent will not take them for that reason. If I am picking up something off of craigslist and they also have a dishwasher, I will take it, strip all the metal I can and them find a dumpster for the remaining plastic.
