I watched the this new show today, the episode in question was called " Coin Operated" It talked about how the average American household has a little over $90 in change. And the coinstar company was created to make money from all this spare change. The average amount of change into the coin stars is $38.00, and the largest was $13,000 in pennies, from a man in Alabama. Now, please tell me what this man was doing with 13k in pennies..I think we all have an idea. :) Anyone want to claim to be this man?

I wouldn't mind beating that when i get my car, I'd go there around midnight or 1 a.m. so i wouldn't have people in line behind me. |

Coinstar machines can't hold 7,000 lbs of coin, can they? |

I'm calling BS on that story. I think the best I've done is $100 in a half hour. That would be 65 hrs straight or if they empty the CS once a week that would be 7 straight days of 10hr shifts. Not even considering the weight like posted above |

Are the Coinstars pretty accurate counting the zincs? |

Half an hour is about right for 10,000 zincs in a Coinstar. Best I have done is 20 minutes. I don't normally dump large amounts of pennies in a coinstar.. way too slow. |
If your percentages are low.. just sort more. If your percentages are high.. just sort more.
Now selling Copper pennies. 1.6x plus shipping. Limited amounts available. |

Did you ever take in a known amount, and was the Coinstar's count pretty close?
I've read articles about some bank's counting machines being off like this one:

If remember right the $13K in pennies was in 4 55 gallon drums and took three days to count.
I think the average realcent household probably has $900 in change.....my brother was visiting last week and saw my barrel o pennies....I think it was a smile that he had on...maybe a smirk anyway I know he was jealous that I had allot of dollars dumped into a 55 gallon drum in pennies |
