Some guy paid with a 2010 half today. Should I buy it if it is still at the store tomorrow? It is the first one I have seen.

Since you can buy it at face value, I would buy it and hold onto it

So as of now there is no premium but maybe later down the road?

If you go to the mint website, not many have been minted so I definitely think it is worth holding on to.

So it is in the same boat as the rest of the post-2001's.

I will see if it is still there tomorrow. Thanks for the info.

when I see something like that I buy it on the spot.
you can not get them without buying them from the mint or in mint sets.

If you want to buy one, it can't hurt. Keep upgrading it from change until you get one that is pristine, unblemished. But spending more than that just ties up your capital for something that won't appreciate in value for decades. It only appears valuable right now because it is initially scarce as they aren't being released into circulation (they go into Fed Reserve vaults). But you're just kidding yourself if you think that clad is an investment. There's MUCH better places for your money if you want it to grow.

Hoard now and hold on!

I have also been surprised to have found 4 or 5 this year ---- I don't understand how they got into circulation so quickly, as I understand them to be special order items, not intended for circulation. I keep all of the post-2001 halfs I find, and periodically separate them by year/mint, and spend about half of which ever years exceed the others. My theory being that which ever of the post 2001 year/mint varieties I found the most of are probably worth the least. And I don't want to tie up too much in coins that may or may not any long term premium. Generally, I would prefer the cash I was "sitting on" to be 90%, not clad of any year.

I took a 1997 half to work today and walked out with the 2010-D. The front isn't perfect but the back looks pretty nice. It looks like someone slit his throat.
