Only one of my 3 rolling machines will roll halves. That machine starts at about $7100 new.. but can be had for around $2000 used. Gotta sell a lot of copper to pay for one of those. [/quote]
LOL! It seems like the price of silver always goes up just before I am ready to buy!
I am still in the beginners stage of this. I want to learn about everything. The main machine I would like to find is one that will separate 90% from copper clad. They are out there. As a child, I watched my father take bags of coin into a coin shop with one of those machines. That was 1964/65. I am sure with today's technology, that type of machine will even separate 40% from copper clad. Do you have one of those? Can the Ryedale be adapted to do that? |

This is coin roll hunting...
$30 Loose Halves Skunk
If it's "Coin roll" hunting.. then loose halves don't count. Any kind of coin hunting is just fine.
SILVERs found count - even the ones found in old cars... |

Went to a bank today and asked the girl if they had any halves...she said she had a box, all I had was $200 so I took $200 worth:
$200 BWR = 1 Walker, 4 Franklins, 3 90% JFK, 5 40%
You can be sure that Monday we will be picking up the remaining $300 from that box. |

Thanks for the update.
1976... "Both proofs and circulation strikes can be 40% SILVERS and can be Clads" Okay, how do you tell them apart? Is it the "s" mint mark? I have $107.00 of 1976D & $23.00 of 1976. Some look a little silverish, but I need to know for sure. I am now too tone deaf to listen for the silver "chink".
Edit: Okay, I looked it up on Red Book. RB says the "S" mint mark can be 40% SILVER or clad. So, I am looking for "S" mint marks only on 1976 SILVER, right? I still need a reliable method to tell 40%'ers from clad on 1976S.

Give them a good rim check. Sometimes the 40% is a little harder to decipher by just rim checking, but you should be able to tell the difference between the copper edged clads and the silver/greenish edged 40%'ers |
