Today, I went to a bank and turned in $200 in halves; went across the street to pick up a $500 order at another bank.
The teller said the order was not in yet but she would call me.
I asked her if she had any lose halves and she told me no but she would check with the other tellers.
She said she had $9.50; as she was counting them out to me, there was a 1953 Ben Franklin in there. She said OOHH that one looks like it is silver. I didn't know what to say because I still wanted her to sell it to me. I said yeah it probably is and she still sold it to me.
I have to go back later and get my $500 order.
SELLING COPPER PENNIES 1.4X FACE SHIPPED......“I sincerely believe that banking establishments are more dangerous than standing armies, and that the principles of spending money to be paid by posterity, under the name of funding, is but swindling futurity on a large scale” Thomas Jefferson
I had a similar experience about 4 weeks ago. I spotted a 40% silver half in the tellers coin tray and asked to buy it. She had no problem. After I got my 4 boxes of pennies she asked if I wanted some other halves so she would not have to count them at the end of the day. Why not I said. I received 4 rolls. All 40% plus the one spare. Walked away very happy that day.
I scored a '64 earlier this week from one of my go-to tellers. She let me go through them before buying it. I'm gonna ask her if she wants to sell me her small stash she said is at home.
