This is a two parter.

1. My girlfriend recieved silverware and we have been using them for about 1 year now and they started to get black spots on them about 2 months ago. I know there is silverware cleaner at the grocerie store but what are the black spots and what would be the best method of getting rid of them. We still would like to eat with them.

2. My girlfriends earings 92.5% silver have become, how do we say, not so shiny. They look cloudy to me. What would work best to clean them?

For the silver if they are really bad you can take a pan and put a sheet of aluminum foil on the bottom and place the silver ware on top. Then pour baking soda on the flatwate. Pour the boiled water on the silver wear and the process should remove any tarnish. Google this method as it is pretty popular. I might have forgot some steps or the order.

But if the spots are minor and the earring are not too bad a quick polish with a silver cleaner should do the trick. Just rinse it thoroughly and they should be okay for eating and wearing.

Is it sterling or silverplated? Silver plated flatware is usally cheap and will tarnish faster and show the bass metal underneath. Sterling is good about not tarnishing if you use it alot.

Robarons method is pretty cool and popular but I have heard that it doesn't actually remove the tarnish it just turns it white.

I did the process on a badly tarnished 40% half and it turned it brown.

Sometimes there is a whitish residue left over. Just polish it off.
