Please let me know what you think about grading bullion coins. There is no need to grade contemporary gold bullion. These coins have only one purpose: to weigh a certain weight. I am a member of both NGC and PCGS. These companies are thriving on this certified coin craziness. My opinion is: unless the coin is perfect MS-70 or PR-70, all holders have to be destroyed. Since I don't have any holders left, I will destroy a proof gold bullion coins set. Please see this video.

A Half ounce, Quarter ounce and 1/10th ounce Lion of Luzern gold coins from this video are for sale. Please PM your offers.

They probably thought the same about the Morgans, Peace, and the gold coins back in the day. Thinking it was just another coin. =O It all depends on the demand.

Those are real coins. Of course surface preservation of Morgans and Peace dollars is very important. I am talking about Bullion coins that were minted just for their weight.

I too only care about bullion, but regardless of its purpose, if it is a coin, someone will want to grade and collect it.

Isn't it easier to offload if you have them in a PCGS graded slab? That would give people more confidence they are getting a legit item. Personally, I would just leave them in there if I bought them that way.

What the buyer wants is more important than what you think or feel.

If you are collecting for your own personal collection and don't care about reselling, do as you wish. If you are looking to resale, leave them be. Let the buyer decide what they want to do. By removing it you just eliminated all the buyers that want graded slabbed coins.

You don't have to be the BEST you just have to be.......SLICK

I saw the video this morning before I went to work. I gotta say, I agree that graded bullion coins are a waste. But, it brings in business for NGC and PCGS. It's your set, do as you wish with it.

To me, a graded coin should be one that is either old/rare/perfect (or near perfect) or some combination thereof. Coins that are made by the tens of millions (like BU ASE's) have no business being graded IMO.

I generally agree, I have never seen the need to slab a non-numismatic "coin" like that. But there are collectors out there, especially since the bullion has dates on them, like regular coins. I personally think it is stupid, as a bullion coin is that, bullion. It is not a numismatic item.

While it may have not been quite as dramatic, why didn't you just use the screwdriver to remove the rest of the screw fasteners?

I will never pay a premium for graded bullion, but since I will sell it eventually I will keep it in it's holder for easier resale.

Nice video.
