Sorry about that Charles. It will happen to all of us, sooner or later, as the banks try to figure out new ways to make money or save on expenses.

Hoard now and hold on!

I recently had a bank stop offering me free coin bags. Now i have to bring the coins in rolled if i want to return them. This doesn't really slow me down if it's halves so much, but pennies were really easy to return in bags.

Selling Copper cents. $0 FV available at 1.4xFV. Also interested in trading for wheat pennies and other coins Please pm me for requests or inquiries.

That's never any fun to hear that or have to deal with that type of situation. Ackward and unpleasant are words that come to my mind.

Sorry...

Lol , ackward and unpleasent are two GREAT words that describe the vibe in the bank with several bags of pennies or go to a coinstar and have 3 5 gallon buckets in a shopping cart rolling through the store

I would have told them that it was not a privledge, it was theirs.
then I would have walked over and closed out amy account.

then said Good buy.
I will never be back, after your bank President gets my letter of explanation, with employee names on it.

I have tried to get halves here, but they all say they can`t get them.
I can get anything else they have but not halves.

one thing I have learned is open an account with them if they agree to let you have coins.
it don`t have to be a large amount of money to open an account, like $200. or so.

Credit Unions, (like some females I'm told) are like trains or buses. There's always another right around the corner.

Not to offend any of our female members....this is what i was told once. I don't believe the thing about trains or buses!

Well they are half full Otherwise you cant lift them in to the cart. At some points, it seems to test the weight of the cart. Between 400-500 for free counting gift certificate. And during that time, you have all the store employees doing passes trying to figure out how much you have and telling you to go to there register so they can cash you out. At least you know coinstar wont deny you for dumping

I meant to make my first post an introduction, but I had to chime in here. I've been lurking and reading and learning here for a little while and just registered yesterday and went straight down to my bank and got $5 worth of cent rolls to sort last night.

Anyway, my bank has 2 full service locations here in town and both have CoinStar type machines for loose coin reclamation. Free operation for account holders. One is even located in a sound proof room. This will make sorting fresh stock chancy at best, but I'm not limited to just one location to pick up new rolls to sort either.

I'll post an introduction in the appropriate forum later.

I can get anything else they have but not halves.

I would be about willing to bet the case is not that they "can't" get them but that they do not want to mess with them since halves are not a commonly circulated coin. The only reason they would not be able to get them even if they wanted to is if their supplier does not carry them.

With that attitude apparently they think you are there for their convenience, not the other way around. They probably got their attitude from our illustrious government, who apparently now thing we work for them, instead of them working for us.

Credit unions have elections by the members for their officers and board.

My credit union is small and actually doesn't even deal in coins!

But as credit unions are theoretically run by members, I'd contact the president and other board members. Or stage a coup at the next election!

Well, I am still in the newbie mode.

Doesn't the CU have to answer to state and federal regulators? File a complaint against the jerks!

Cause them some bad publicity by going to local news stations on a slow news day and say: "The Credit Union kicked me out! Don't do business with them! They refuse to deal in lawful money!" Then the news team will run down there and shove a camera in their faces and ask: " You morons! Don't you know you are suppose to be handling constitutionally mandated money?!"

Wonder what my CU is going to say when I drop by tomorrow with $300 in singles to deposit.

Hey, ya know. I'm just trying to save more by not trading in one dollar bills. When I get a single it goes in the cigar box. The box is full and now all them stinky frn ones become a digital notation in my account...

Hmmm, maybe I should come back next week and withdraw enough to get a couple of $5 American Gold Eagles. Ya reckon.

Same CU got a little upset when I cashed in 3 years of assorted coins over a two day period. They had to replace the bags twice. But all the coins went into my account. Made 4 trips with various size pickle jars. They weren't happy, but so what? It was all deposited so all they could do was scowl errrr smile.

I spent all my money on motorbikes, wimmens and beer...the rest I just wasted.

I may be lucky but my local dump has seven branches within 5 miles of me. All are dumps for me. I keep some dump money with me alot. If I'm in the area doing something else...I dump. 3 of these dumps has the new coin machines. They are like the coinstar...I have never seen a bag changed yet. I run under the radar to keep this sweet deal. That's why I didn't choose any of the CU's around here. Not enough branches. I live in a very nosy area. Good to keep under the radar. Just my thoughts on CU's.

Footwork too! Got 3 Chase bank branches within 2 miles of each other near me. No account either. But 1 will sell me boxes everyday with a smile. The other 2 act in disgust that I had the nerve to even ask. You never know....just do the footwork.

LOL this just made me remember when banks would make my buddy mad by cutting off his half buying, he would go in there with between 5-10K in $2 bills and deposit them! then go to a different branch and withdraw it

if you really want to get them, dump some susie B's, but not enough for a full bag (which i think is 2000). they'll stay in that vault forever.

as for the CU, if you are a member then you are an owner and i don't think they can unilaterally terminate your membership. talk to the manager or president.

Buying:
Peace/Morgan G+ at $15.00
copper cents at 1.3X
wheat pennies at 3X

I had a teller at the Citibank ask me to take the penny rolls off her hands so they don't have to send them back to Brink's. I'm abliging the nice lady and doing my part. By the way, I gotthe $25 in rolls yesterday and ALL 2500 were keepers, including 10 wheats and 22 Canadian pennies. I don't know if this will ever happen again but i'll be back Monday to see....
