Today, I picked up a couple boxes of pennies and decided to drive down the street a little to the credit union and turn in some halves.

I have to admit I was throwing them in the bank bag at red lights when I was getting them ready. I was pretty sure I counted out $81.

I brought the bag in and told the teller I had counted $81. She took the bag in the back and dumped it in the machine. I cannot see the machine since it is in the back.

She came out and said you had $53.50 which shocked me. I asked her if she was sure and said yes that was what the print out gave her.

She had another teller go in the back and hand count verify them and they came out with $53.50 also.

I feel kind of stupid but also perplexed that I would miscount that badly.

The conspiracy theorist in me says they made some mistake. However, I know that I may have miscounted.

Has that happened to anyone else?

I didn't raise a big stink I just took the $53.50. I think for now on I will bring them wrapped so that I can reverify with myself that that is the amount I have.

Im in a situation where there was a bank that accepted loose (im only dumping pennies). The deposit then hits the account in which case I waited 3 weeks and no credit on my account. Called them and they investigated and added a credit on my account of 150.00. Whens the last time you put an uncounted amount of pennies in 3 bags and it happened to be 15000? They gave me some BS like they weigh it , blah blah blah. Really makes it difficult and frustrating. It will prevent me from going there again.

I told them that, I told them all mine were the lighter ones so I got ripped off, It has been going on for a few weeks now and although I dont know the exact amount, i was shorted 9-40 dollars. There will still be further investigation so well see

that's tough.

They are going to be completely turned off of large coin dumps after this. Probably outright refuse them.

And you are stuck wondering how much you were shorted.

TXBullion, I hope they clear that up. Guess we both have lessons learned the hard way.

I'm hoping I just really miscounted but I can't be 100% sure since I did it in more of a rush and everything from dumping them in the machine to the recount was not done in front of me.

Usually I have been pretty lucky (might be plus or minus 1-3 halves), though my last drop soured my faith in my dump bank.

I lost about 10 bucks on that drop in total.

To make it worse, the dump bank got all the deposit slips mixed up, combined multiple bags, etc. to make tracking everything to the bag almost impossible.

They must get sloppy in the coin room when there are multiple half sacks from different branches.

It's Half Time...all the time.
