Usually when you are going through halves you kind of hear a "ching" when the halves hit each other.
This is the 2nd time I have found a non-silver half that is more like a "thud"
It is a 1979 totally looks normal.
What is the story behind that?

keep looking at it.
More than likely it IS hollow.
Weigh it.
You likely have some form of a 'magician's' coin that you haven't found the opening to yet. |

Is the back rotated? A good sign of a trick coin.
"Bounce" it on a wooden cutting board a few times face down, the back should rise a bit and you can work it open with a hard plastic pointy utensil. OR Squeeze a plastic gallon milk jug opening so you can slip it in and shake until it opens up, but be careful not to ding it up.
Bet you find a British large Cent or a Mexican Peso inside. |

Ok I bounced it on the floor and it popped the reverse off.
The back of the coin is solid but one side is a 1967 british one penny and the other side is the reverse of a JFK half; how do they do that?
Is it worth any money? |

Its a magic trick
Scotch and soda

I know because I bought it when I was 7 and it cost a couple bucks. Check ebay, might be valuable for a magician. Or I can swap you with a Regular half from that year |

How do they make the back of the coin one side a British penny and the other side the reverse of a half? |

Thats a great question. And I wonder if they are producing new coins or taking existing ones for the half dollar. Would question if any counterfeiting is involved because its identical. Thats really cool you guys find these while sorting halves |

Think its machined down and each side is glued/bonded together. I have found both british penny and mexican centavo variations. Pretty cool when you are going through a skunky bagfull of halves. |

wow,
they've got the Scotch and Soda DVD on sale.
But guess you need something called a 'bang ring'.
Wish I had one of those in College! ;>P |
