If you try this at home make sure you use proper safety protection and that the pennies are Canadian coins.

What is on the top of the stack?

Deal

Live free or die.
Plain and simple.

"If you love wealth more than liberty, the tranquility of servitude better than the animating contest of freedom, depart from us in peace. We ask not your council or your arms. Crouch down and lick the hand that feeds you. May your chains rest lightly upon you and may posterity forget that you were our countrymen."

My guess is black paint to get a quick start on the melting process.

Listen FBI I did not try melting my pennies. I just left them outside and had a big lighthouse lens hanging from a hook.

So those zinc coins had to get above 787 Fahrenheit, and if they were coppers, it most likely would not have done anything... because it would have had to get to nearly 2000F?

Looks like zinc cents to me. Would be much harder with Canadian steel core pennies.

This seems like it would make a cool mythbusters episode if it hasn't been covered already.

I have one of those giant fresnel lenses sitting around but it is too huge to use easily, I need to build a stand and frame for it. But I have been able to melt some zincs with it.

Another cool video of melting a penny but this time with a high powered laser, you have to skip through the technical info to see the penny melting though.
You must be logged in to see this link. . I'm planning on building one of those lasers soon.
