I started at 15. I just turned 17 a couple of days ago. Really, I collect wheat pennies, but I did sort copper for a while and have a bunch of rolls. I also have a bunch of silver coins. My collection of silver coins is valued in the thousands (yes, I really am 17 and I buy my own stuff). For wheat pennies, the other day I spent 300 bucks on this giant box of 7500 "unsearched". Yes, they are unsearched. I know, a rarity right? The dealer near me buys from people who are just looking for some quick cash by selling their grandfather's collection. I get all of the goodies for 4 cents each. I have found many, many 09's and 09 VDBs, 22D and many other semi-keys. I probably have well over 12,000-13,000 wheats. |

Live free or die. Plain and simple.
"If you love wealth more than liberty, the tranquility of servitude better than the animating contest of freedom, depart from us in peace. We ask not your council or your arms. Almost 25 and just got started - have sorted almost $200 in pennies so far and have about 50 canadian, 35 wheats, one dime, and one Indian to show for it. I want to go looking for halves at my local branch bank tommorow. I also plan to buy a metal detector for a more adventurous style of "buffalo hunting". |

I am supposed to hoard what I sort???
Have fun.

I'm, 14 :O, I've only sorted $114 to date haha. Although I've also sorted roughly $200 in nickels with no Ag, or Buffs yet haha. I seem so unexperienced compared to everyone else. |
Must hoard more...... |

I'm 14, I started hoarding at 13. I've accumulated about 1/5 of a ton of copper, and I sold some a long the way... |

25 here, and only at 10 lbs, copper. Although, being just 50 miles from the Canadian border, I have the advantage of grabbing up a large quantity of Canadian pre-1996. And I plan on doing just that! My question is, how do you convince your wives to store 4 tons of pennies? |

I am shocked at the distribution skewed to the lower age groups. I would have guessed over 50% above 56, mostly paranoid old men like me. The younger members here are VERY wise to be getting into tangible assets. In my view, this is a long term prospect. It may not pay off in the next 2 years, but it is VERY likely to pay off within 20. I tell my kids, who are disgusted by my silver/copper habit, that if all goes well, they will split the silver and pass it on to their kids. And if all does not go well, the copper and silver will keep us going for at least a little while. I guess for those looking for a quick $$ or two, buying 2 cents worth of copper for 1 cent is just obvious. For me, it is a longer term insurance. |

That's easy.. you just stack it up and don't tell her. She might not even be able to accurately estimate how much you have sitting there. Careful though.. one member's wife decided to help him out by hauling several bags down to the Coinstar and cashing them in for him. She called him on the cell phone while they were being counted.. he could hear the CoinStar eating his hoard in the background.
Just tell her you got the 4 tons on sale. Ladies understand sales. I can make you a heck of a deal on 4 tons. |
If your percentages are low.. just sort more. If your percentages are high.. just sort more.
Now selling Copper pennies. 1.6x plus shipping. Limited amounts available. |

I just started about a month ago. I am 32, married, and have two kids.
To date, I have slightly over 40 pounds of copper. At this rate, it will take me over 4 years of handsorting to achieve 1 ton. My personal goal is 500 pounds. Once I hit that, I'll see if I still feel like doing this anymore.
73 Wheats (1920-P earliest), 31 Canadian CU, 5 dimes (1 silver), 1 Euro Penny, 1 Bahaman Penny, 1 Plastic Penny, and 12 Canadian Post-CU. |

My age group (19-25) is actually in the number two position right now. If you haven't voted yet young people vote!!! We gotta overtake all those middle aged old farts, lol. J/K |
