Found a matching tea and creamer set today. The bottom says silver on copper. What is this. No real hallmark except for a lion right below the silver on copper. Anyone know the percentage of silver for this set?

To my knowledge, that is pretty much like being silver plated.

Copper is the main base metal and it has been plated with silver. Like any other silver plate items usually it is such a minute amount of silver that it would not be worth extracting it.

It may be worth more as a collectible or antique. You could probably browse ebay and see if you can find something similar to your set.

Thanks...I was trying to do that...but I have such a slooooow computer. The set just looked like it had more silver than that. It had such a great silver-like tarnish to it. That's what was throwing me off.

There are hundreds of hallmark varieties. Unless the item is really old, I mean really old. Sterling must have a maker's mark and be stamped sterling or 925. Sometimes you may come across coin silver .900 or .835 silver.

Here is a good link to reference hallmarks

Some silver plate is still valuable.

If you have a local ebay consignment store, it may be worth taking it into there. Not that you have to sell it or consign it but they could give you a better idea of what you have.
