How many of you guys have found penny errors? I have found a few wheat errors, a copper error, and several 2009 errors. How have ya'll done? I realize you Ryedalers (I added that word to the spell-check dictionary by the way ) might not get as many because you may not see them, but I just wanted to hear your opinions/finds. Also, anyone up for an error coin tracking thread? Keep sorting and have fun!

Sorry I wasn't very specific in the first post. OK, the wheat errors I have (I think 5 of them)are all die breaks on the wheat ears. The Memorial Copper is a 1972 that has a small die break on the obverse at the edge of it. And the 2009s are LP-2s that have a variety of die cracks on the reverse (some between the fingers, some others). I haven't found any Double Dies or blank planchets yet but maybe one of these days. |

Many have found blank planchets and well as off center coins. Clashed dies and grease filled dies as well have been found. |

If anyone has any blocked die penny errors for sale I'd be interested i.e. where the dies are clashed and it almost looks blank on one side. Send me a pm. |

I have found many "filled 9" wheats over the years from looking through wheat bags and such. Or "filled D" or other small die breaks which affect the date. Found a 2009 LP2 DDR (doubling in the fingers). Some small clipped planchets on cents and several nickels. Found 3 nice cent cuds. Some repunched mintmarks. 1955 with shelf doubling (poor man's doubled die). Several "brass plated" 1997D. I enjoy looking for errors. I should have found a 1998 or 2000 wide AM by now... and maybe someday a 1999! |

Oh and I found a dime with a die break when I was a kid. It was the first cool thing I had found in all my searching... I still have it. Lots of off-center coins; I usually only save them if there is something actually missing from the design. Found a couple "weak strike" coins... where one side had considerably less detail than the other... Found a doubled British 5 pence recently and reported it somewhere on this site... Good eyes = error finds. Over time they add up. Not that I've ever tried to sell 'em. They're usually just too interesting for what they're worth, if you know what I mean. |

I see there is another of the 'rare' 1999-p wide am on ebay. This seems to be the hot error coin right now. The 1998-p and the 2000-p with the wide am's don't seem to have the demand anymore. If someone wants to add that link so we can see how high that coin goes that would be nice for this thread. That coin is not in the greatest of condition and it's price is going to go high! Just a thought when you are searching. Everytime I get a 1999-p I cross of fingers and my toes. I have found one so far. But I would like to find another just to see how much I can get for it. |

Thanks for the replies all. I forgot I also found a 1969 "filled 9". I also found a 1971 D nickel with a die break partially covering the word "God" on the obverse. I looked for the AM varieties, and didn't find any for awhile, but maybe I should start looking for them again. |

Since I am a hand sorter I really enjoy looking for error coins, as my eyes allow me to do so.
I have found the 1998, 1999, and 2000 Wide AMs. I have also found coins that might have a MAD, or been stuck through grease or contain a polished die error, or some have a die clash. I found the Canadian nickel that is either struck on a foreign planchet or struck on rolled too thin stock. The verdict is still out on that coin. Plus I found the Canadian dime that was a special edition commemorative coin that has the die break error. I have found many pennies with die breaks in them also. Some of the struck through grease or polished die errors might have part of the date missing. That's always cool to find.
It's fun to see what you can find during your searches, sort of like a treasure hunt, but one that can be done sitting down in a climate controlled environment.
Enjoy your searches, everyone. |
