So I walk into one of my usual dump banks with $840 in halves.

A man who I do not really recognize walks up to me and goes "wow you have a lot of coins" to which I said "yes" he goes "where did you get them all?" I told him I was a collector. He said "but where did you get them?" So I told him "from the bank". His reply was "Well why dont you take them back to the bank you got them from because I know you didnt get them from this bank".

At this point, I was a little upset as he was very rude (but I obviously wanted to make my dump) so I said "because I'm a customer at THIS bank" to which he replied "it does not matter these machines are for personal use people bring $20-$30 at a time...they're not industrial machines they can't handle this many coins...and also everytime that you come in with this many coins you tie up my employees" to which I said "are you sure there not industrial machines, they seem to be able to handle a lot of coins, and I came in at this time because I figured it wouldnt be busy (it was empty)"

He said "I'll do it for you this time, but in the future if you bring this many in I'm going to stop it. If you want to bring half of this one time a week thats fine, but any more than that and I'll stop you"

I wanted to tear this guy a new one. First off when I opened the account I was told that brining in coin would NOT be a problem and asked to keep it to under $1,000 A DAY. Second off I've been to that bank about 50 times and I have LITERALLY only ever seen ONE other customer...the place is EMPTY!

I let cooler heads prevail because when it comes down to it I want to be able to still dump here. I'm thinking that next time I go I will take about $250 and make it a point to say "look I brought a smaller amount just like you asked" to get back on good terms.

There are other banks that I dump at, but this one is close and the machine is dead on accurate.

Very frustrating and he was very rude. Just thought I'd vent that a little.

Take bags of chocolate for bank employees every time you dump coins. Seriously. That will alleviate a lot of hard feelings.

You are way better off staying calm like you did,but some back-side chasms really need a boot lost in them
Some people just like being difficult.
I agree that candies and smiles go along way in greasing the wheels.
Maybe bring in some chocolate coins and ask tellers if its ok to bring these coins in! They probably hate that guy too.

Available again! $100 of Copper Lincoln Memorials for $145 shipped.

Maybe about the same cost as dumping zincs in a Coinstar machine, but do you know how long it would take to dump hundreds of dollars in pennies in one of those machines?? The most I ever dumped in a Coinstar machine was about $30, and it took about half an hour.

The most important thing, IMO, is to keep dump-bank tellers happy.

Almost the same speech I got UD. Is that University of Delaware Eric?

TD Bank?

I took a break, I am busy during summer and I was just booted at a TDBank branch.

After that I hit all the other branches with partial dumps and will let everything quiet down.

I know Coinstars cannot handle my kind of volume.

I believe there is some variation in coins per hour on the coinstars but on pennies, i pick it at 200-400 dollars per hour depending on the machine

It is University of Delaware (although it has been a few years). You know the area?

That is what my father and I did, lucky where we live there are about 10 banks with coin counting machines (and Chase will even accept $200 a week rolled) so we have to spread it out now until things cool off.

Had the same speech at a local bank I used to dump at about half a year ago. While I dont dump at that branch anymore, I kept my account with this bank because there are other branches in the area. I only take $200 or so to dump there now. Find yourself a CU with a industrial highspeed machine. They are fantastic, but as you are learning, limit your dumps to $500 or less at a time. You wont raise as many flags with this amount.

UDeric,

If i can offer up a suggestion. For 1/2 dollars, i've had a lot of success returning in the following fashion, loose, rolled or in $1000 bags.

By far the easiest way to get in and out of a bank is the $1000 bag or bringing a $500 box of rolled coins (essentially search and return the coins to the box they came from). Loose takes a lot of time and will require their assistance at the machine.

If you can ask a bank that you frequently return large amounts of rolled coin to, if you could bring them bags of pre-counted coin. This would free up their time and reduce the stress they may have from helping you during a return day.

I started off returning $100-200 at several local banks before upgrading to large returns at 1-2 each week. You have to test the waters before you can dive in full throttle, and it is always possible for the bank manager to cut you off (from ordering/returning) but that just the game we have to play.

Hope that helps, but it seems like you have other options and sometimes it is easiest for everyone to just move on to another bank.

Selling Copper cents. $0 FV available at 1.4xFV. Also interested in trading for wheat pennies and other coins Please pm me for requests or inquiries.

Job, I appreciate the suggestion. I may look into asking the bank if they will accept a pre-counted box/bag. That would make both of our lives a lot easier.

For the time being I'm going to spread it out a little bit, and bring smaller amounts back to this particular bank.

NONE of my banks will accept precounted bags or even machine rolled coins. If I were to bring in a new sealed box of pennies they would still make me stand there and break them open so they could run them through their counter.

COPPER - the "poormans" precious metal!!!

SELLING - $100.00 face copper shipped to you for $189.00 machine rolled or bagged - PM me if your interested.

You know that if you choose the gift card option it's free right? I just get the lowes ones for the properties or if I know someone going to lowes I'll sell them one and give them a free 10% off coupon which makes them more then happy to do it then. Had a guy buy a nice grill 2 wks ago. Gave him $900 in receipts and a 10% boy was he happy to save $90 and I got rid of 90,000 Zinkers!
Also, If it took you 30 mins to dump 30 bux you have the slowest machine ever lol. Up here I average about $50 every 10 mins. Which still is 40 mins for $200 but I call and txt people the whole time so it's not too bad

gift option is kindof a last resort don't you think? Unless you really don't have to worry about the cash you're tying up into a gift certificate...

i hope this guy was the manager or else he should mind his own business.

if he is the manager, his comments about not industrial makes you wonder if you are not getting short changed by his counters.

actually, counting machines often make mistakes, esp on very small and very big coins. if you buy bags of pennies, you'll average 5-10 dimes every time. on halves, i'm routinely shorted by counting mahines so i count myself and dump in full bags.

Buying:
Peace/Morgan G+ at $15.00
copper cents at 1.3X
wheat pennies at 3X
