If things got so bad in this country that you were forced to leave, how would you plan on taking your silver, gold, platinum etc with you when you left?
Would you be scared that someone at the border would confiscate what you had on hand?
I was just thinking that I do not have a clear plan in place and was seeing if any of you did.

I don't plan to leave but if things were that bad I guess I would be an illegal immigrant too. |

Leaving the country with a couple hundred pounds of silver would be impossible.
Maybe that's why gold is so hot. |

I've gone on domestic flights with a briefcase full of coins before (sounds sketchy but I was just taking some of my collection home from college), but I don't know about leaving the country with them. I think it depends on where you are going. If you are going to Yemen with $100,000 of gold I think someone is going to want to ask some questions! |

How much gold could you fit inside a money belt and hide it on your person? |

Wouldn't it be easier to ship your pm's than to carry them with you? Find someone you can trust and have them send the packages to you after you arrive. |

An ounce of gold would be extremely easy to conceal in something else. It's not like someone would notice the weight of even several ounces.
Also, if it became unsafe to ship things, it would become widely known fairly quickly. We had a Russian exchange student a while ago and she said not to bother shipping her any chocolate chips(yes, chocolate chips) because they would get stolen. So I think people would know. And you could do 1 test ounce first.
But it should be relatively easy to sneak into just about any country, especialy with a boat. Outside of 12 miles, no one has any jurisdiction to stop you. Fill up a small boat with fuel and make a run for Costa Rica, or some other tropical paradise. |

But wouldn't pirates also know that ex-pats are heading to such places and target them as they're trying to escape to there? |

Illegal copies of music and movies are the last thing people are going to worry about when the economy collapses.

Build a boat out of them.
Or mix them in with iron Ore on a Great Lakes Freighter headed to Canada. |

Since most of my money/value is in copper and nickel....... I would be f*kd.
But I think the whole idea is aweful. I'd rather stock up on ammo and fight to the bare end! But being a father and husband I would more than likely attempt to burry/hide my copper and nickel and flee 'into the hills' with what I can carry. |

Let 'em have the copper and nickel while you go into hiding with your silver and gold. It's kind of like leaving small items like a few silver coins that burglars will grab and run with before they get caught, not thinking to dig for the buckets of silver and gold you have hidden elsewhere. Diversion tactics like this can come in handy. |

there are folks on live-aboard sail boats that cruise around the world. pirates are a concern in a few places, and theft generally is a concern in many places.
but you don't just cruise anywhere you like. there are port of entry, visa requirements, etc. you do get boarded by local coast guards, etc.
these types of boats cost about as much as a house. a lot of people just sell their house and their stuff and live on the boat. |

And yet they ARE slowly stealing our country right out from under our feet, by un-American policies, propaganda and actions. The gears and motion is already set. It's going to take one GIANT monkey wrench to stop it. :( Are you ready to stand up and be (one of) the monkey(s) that wields it? |

If you have a plan to stay here and "head for the hills", I think it would be wise to buy an ugly old van and fill it with your "bug-out" stuff ahead of the event. I don't have a place to run to yet, but it is on my agenda. The van/ truck should be tooled to with-stand an EMP. Once the SHTF it will be too late to pack. You will be lucky to get out of Dodge before the panicked masses start shooting anything that moves.
If you are leaving the country...how do you get PM's thru the metal detectors at the airport? A pocket full of gold Eagles & Maple Leafs would be nice if you could get thru customs (theirs and ours). I have read several financial gurus urging people to get their wealth out of the USA now while they still can... but where do you go??? If TSHTF here, it will hit everywhere else, too, will it not? I don't see how the panicked masses over there will be any different from the ones here. I think bringing weapons will be harder than PM's, so, how will you defend yourself?
I don't have enough saved up to start over in another country and I don't trust any other country as much as I do this one, so, I guess I will just have to gut it out here.
For those of us staying here... the fight is NOW, not later! Don't wait. Take to the streets now and get out the vote to counter-act what is going on. Campaign for those who will fight for our liberty. NOW IS BETTER THAN LATER. The ballot box is better than the ammo box.
Sorry for the long post, but this subject is heavy on my mind today and I enjoy reading other people's views on this serious matter. |
