However I did find something interesting, which I was unable to account for. I searched one roll and found a coin which clearly had a white reeded edge, no sign of orange to be found. Obviously im thinking I've got some silver here. Yet the date on the coin is 1974 (JFK Half)! Does anyone know what this could be?
WELCOME to RealCent!!!
Sometimes the edges of halves mislead you. I've seen 40%er edges that look like clads and clad half edges that look like SILVERs. While I edge sort dimes, I inspect the dates of all the halves I sort. |

This is excellent advice, there are a handful of 40% coins that I would have otherwise missed if I only edge checked. Having said that I think 90% of the time edge checking will work, but if you've got the extra time why not check all the dates.
What should be our last searching for July:
$20 CWR = 1 40%
Box 1 = 1 40%
Box 2 = 1 90% JFK, 6 40% |

Unless you say otherwise by midnight July 31, I am going to assume that all the SILVERs were found in the $250 of CWRs. |

On to our silver dime finds for July 2010. We didn't work hard enough on dimes in July as our focus was putting up good numbers with halves. Still in all we ended with (17) silvers, all being Roosevelt's. Here are the details...
$2,420.30 Dimes.
Breakdown:
$1000.00 (Coin counter bag) - 7/2/10 - (6) 90% Roos - 54D, 60D, 60D, 64D, 64D, 64D
$250.00 - 7/10/10 - S K U N K
$250.00 - 7/10/10 - (1) 90% Roos - 62D
7/10/10 - (1) 90% Roos - 46 - Pulled by cashier at convenience store from their change machine.
7/13/10 - (1) 90% Roos - 50D - Pulled by cashier at convenience store from their change machine.
7/15/10 - (1) 90% Roos - 64D - Spotted in a teller tray while dumping halves.
$170.00 (34 bank rolls) - split between 7/17/10 & 7/19/10 - (3) 90% Roos - 51S, 52D, 64
$250.00 - 7/21/10 - (2) 90% Roos - 52D, 64D
$250.00 - 7/22/10 - (1) 90% Roos - 63D
$250.00 - 7/22/10 - (1) 90% Roos - 64D
I hope to have a renewed enthusiasm towards searching dimes in August (I know a new $1000.00 coin counter bag is in my near future!!!).
Now on to my final and most exciting (and improbable!!!) find of the month.

Dateline: July 1, 2010
Activity: Picking up two boxes of halves and dumping $100.00 nickels at bank.
TELLER TRAY MORGAN!!! - 1899-O
While the teller was running the nickels I did my typical rubber-necking to see what was in the teller's coin tray. I could hardly believe it when I saw the Morgan sitting at the top of the dollar coin section tilted sideways so that it could fit. I figured she would be keeping it for herself but was nearly floored when after I asked the question she obliged and told me that she would need a dollar from me if I wanted it. OK in my book!!! I guess the two jumbo candy bars I bring in every Thursday finally paid off!!!
I didn't want to seem overly excited and pocketed the coin. I fully expected 1921 but was even more surprised to see it was an 1899-O. Slick, but it was a righteous way to open the month. Now every week since when I stop in she tells me I haven't seen any more of those dollar coins. I just don't have the heart to tell her that she probably won't be.
Good luck to all in August!!!
Jeff
