Likely done with acid and a small brush. Looks pretty good for a zinc.

I have a silver-colored 1960 penny. Anyone know how that would be done? Paint, since there is no zinc core?

Perhaps this bust of Lincoln sanscopper could be adopted by the U.S. Mint. Then the savings of using lesser copper could possibly keep our penney rolling of the presses for another decade or so!

Slightly off topic, but I wonder if there's any sense in keeping some zinc pennies found with toning. Some of them look like they have some monster toning going.
