Ok, I always thought Indian Heads were harder to get than teeth from a chicken (one of my father's old saying). I've hand sorted a couple hundred dollars worth of pennies (Fed boxes) over the past year and found not one.
My girlfriend who is a school teacher, came home the other day with a bowl full of money from some fund raiser she had in her class. She must have $400 in small bills and 9 lbs of change in the bowl.
She's out and about right now and as I passed by the bowl for the 20th time, it dawned on me that I should help make it lighter for her by sorting out the nickels and coppers and giving her paper for it. She thinks my "penny habit" is silly. She recently found a couple bricks of nickels in the back of my closet. She said she thinks i need therapy!
In my first 2 handfuls, I found 2 Wheaties, a War Nickel and a silver dime. About 10 handfuls in, I looked down and this funny looking coin was starring up at me. I picked it up and under closer inspection realized it was a 1899 IH in fine condition! My first ever! WOOHOO!
I recently found a 1909 Lincoln at work while sorting through a coworkers stash of pennies. I thought that was something. I'm beaming right now! It's the little things in life. So much for those chicken teeth...
The WOW continues! I just pulled out a 1928 Canadian penny and a Bahamian penny from 1986 with a starfish on the back. I'll post pics as soon as I'm done. This is fun!
