Does anyone have any limits on how many pre-82s they're gathering? My problem is safe space, but I'm thinking about building a strong box in another place as a larger place to hold valuables.

Hi Hooli,

I have no limits on the amount of pre-82's I am hoarding. As long as they are out there at face value I plan to grab them up.

As far as storage space goes, the sheer bulk of even a few hundred bucks in copper cents has positive and negative sides to it. While it is true if you ever have to pick up and move real quick the bulk may slow you down, it also slows down potential thieves. If you use your imagination you can safely store loads of the things without anyone having a clue what they are. Besides, most home invasions are smash and grab type things and a ton of pennies might not be high up on the list of valuables to grab and carry, lol.

I totally agree, lugging the change around would be hard for burglars. I prefer to have mine out of sight to begin with though. Building a "safe" out of wood & diamond plate (I LOVE diamond plate, heh heh heh) wouldn't be hard at all and could double my storage space. It wouldn't be fire safe, but oh well.

I've never been big on digging holes and caching, but it's personal choice really. I'm that guy would wants to occasionally take a peek at everything he's got at once. lol A big argument for pre-82s is the fact it's really a no lose situation. If copper bottoms out and it's only worth a cent, then I just saved money. If it jumps up, I invested. The price of copper will determine my wording. ha ha

I've stated it elsewhere on this board, but my limit is once I have 8 to 10 boxes in a row that come up under 8% pre-82 I am done sorting. At that point, Copper would have to be worth at least $25/lb to make it worth my time, even if I do sort these while watching tv.

Mine are sitting in brinks boxes in a back bedroom closet. If someone is robbing me they may take off with a box or two but I do not think that they will take the time or energy to move them all.

To be honest, I find sorting pennies calming. In an average day my schedule is hectic and a bit stressful. Since I started sorting pennies, I'm finding I'm more relaxed and a bit happier when I look at copper prices! LOL

yeah, it's a good feeling to be getting richer through a follproof method.

I don't know if it's foolproof, but it's dam well close to it. Storage is not a problem for me. I always wonder about the guys who say silver storage is a problem for them and that's why they go with gold instead. Either they got a heck of a lot more bucks than I do or they live in their car.

Has anyone noticed a drop in pre-82 percentages yet in their boxes/rolls as they search? Also, what does "lol" mean?

lol means "Laugh Out Loud". And I haven't just yet. I haven't depleted the town's general supply yet I guess. Ha ha!

Although I broke the bank once on Friday and a second time today. Two different banks who were apparently low on pennies as is. None of them sell "boxes" of pennies either, but they're willing to give up a Federal Reserve Bank bag to help carry them.
