Found a quicker way to strip insulated wire--I am using a wire brush wheel attached to my 6" grinding wheel. I can now fill up a 5 gal. bucket in an hour or less of bright bare copper!
I have alot of insulated 12 and 10 gauge wire that I pull taught across a 6" brush on my bench wheel. The insulation is stripped off one side of the wire, and I just peel back the rest. I wear heavy leather gloves because I get very close to the wheel with my fingers.
hmmmm...... electricity involved, minor cost. Larger output for time. Interesting, sounds like a good idea... how could I do the same with an electric drill and a wire brush attatchment??? What about a grinding disk? it doesn't work so well?
Yes it dose make a mess. I have orange and black plastic bits all over my arms and legs and I put a shield in front of the motor so the plastic dose not get into the motor. I have the motor and wheel on a board which I have moved outside for ventilation. This also a very dangerous operation. I hand feed the wire across the wire brush wheel about 2 feet at a time, just enough to strip about 1/3 of the insulation off. Being very careful not to have the wire "catch" and spin into the wheel and whip around.
Actually, Chinese importer prefer them unstripped. I'm currently buying huge quantity from US, importing into China. Any one interested can drop me an email: ronlin1@mac.com
