I have submitted coin 2, It is a 1876 Trade Dollar made at the Carson City Mint. The significance of this particular coin is that is was struck 100 years after America declared independence. And, because it is a Carson City Trade Dollar, the silver used to make it came from the surrounding mines in Nevada. The You must be logged in to see this link. reinforced the 1849 Gold Rush and brought more settlers to explore and inhabit the West. The significance of this time period in the history of America cannot be overstated. Events that took place then have structured what we think of America today.

This coin is just a little slice of that period's history. Plus, it's not a bad coin to look at, either.

Really disappointed that 12 US coins made it to the second round but only 2 coins from the rest of the world.

I for some reason got into my head that this was a "most beautiful" coin contest, but I went back and looked, and the vote is for best coin, which includes lots more than just the look. Guess I should work on my reading comprehension!

Is the toning on #5 legit ??? There is a lot of artificial toning going on right now and this looks soooooooo good it makes me suspect something is amiss.
