I attended a big food show in Dubai and did tours of stores and food processors. Any disruption to air or ship travel and they would nearly starve in a few weeks. (article says they were running out of produce due to ash). Darn near all food is imported. What surprised me most was the massive dairies and market gardens in Saudi Arabia that supply the UAE. Always thought of Saudi as a big desert.
