I went by my Mom's today on the way home from work today. My Brother and his wife moved in with her a couple of years ago after my Dad died, but still try to get by at least once a week to visit. While there she mentioned that she was cleaning out a closet and ran across my pennies. Back in college I had the habit of throwing all my pennies in a box each day since I didn't want to bother carrying them. I would get around to rolling them once in a while, but don't remember ever cashing any in. When I graduated and went in the Air Force I moved them along with the other stuff I wasn't taking to my parents.
Lo and Behold there was almost $90 in rolled pennies in that box and since I graduated in 1984 out of the handfull of rolls I've gone thru tonight they are running about 95% copper. No, it's no large amount, but I got a kick out it.
Wow... even the zinc in this would be a lot of fun! All the 1982 varieties, 1983 doubled die reverse, and 1984 doubled die obverse! Here's hoping you will find one of those nice errors!!!
What was the percentage of Wheats? Did you pull the Wheaties out when you were younger? If not, this would be an interesting snapshot in time of wheat percentages.
Have gone thru all but around a dozen rolls now. Only had to remove about 2 non coppers from each roll on the average. Only found 3 wheaties in the whole bunch - even 30 years ago I pulled wheats out and saved the separately. Must have just missed those 3.
