Stopped by the gas station on the way to picking up my two boxes and bought 4 rolls. Three of them look to be the new Shields

was at a coin shop today and i offhandedly asked what they were selling the shields for after seeing a couple rolls, and they said, '8 or 10 cents each'.
i lol'd and asked, 'how many are you BUYING them for then?' lol
he just smiled.
i probably have 5 rolls or so from hand-rolling over the last couple weeks. weird that some haven't even seen ONE. |

Just saw my very first Shield penny today. Found 4 of them in a regular bank box of plastic rolls.
Also got one $25 box that appears to be almost entirely filled with near BU 2009's, but strangely with a few dark pennies (looking at the roll sideways) in each. Not sure what to do with this one. I don't particularly care to accumulate 2009's, but it feels uncomfortable just to dump 'em too. Stalemate... |

| I agree, they are very cool and I like the look as the replacement for the next 100 years or how ever long they will last but 13 boxes worth? I don't know how the banks work in TX but I have had to go way out of my travel patterns to get something to sort. I finally gave up and just started taking them so to help the banks clear them out. Maybe someone here will want some and we can make a deal, swap? |

| Sorted a 25 dollar box this weekend. Found 3 Shields in the first clear-pack roll I opened. Then found 3 Shields in the remaining 49 rolls, for a total of 6 Shields. They appear un-circulated. I'm guessing there's plenty of Shield hoarding going on. |

I have to give the mint credit for the shield penny. I actually think the design looks pretty classy; not like the cheap looking dollar coins.
I hit a mother load yesterday. Two full boxes of dirty rolls (meaning almost solid rolls with a few coins mixed in) |

Need help on this one... I have long been a silver collector, but am new to the penny game. I ordered 4 boxes of pennies (like I have plenty of other times) and they are all shield pennies. I am a bit shocked and they look really cool, but I wanted copper. I have two questions: Did I get skunked or did I hit a home run? How can I tell the mint mark?
I opened one box and left the other 3 still sealed, but wondering what I can do to maximize this find? By the way, I got them today along with $2,000 in halves. Hopefully the halves will be worthwhile...

| webvideopro welcome to the forum. If there is no mint mark it is from the Philadelphia mint, otherwise there will be a small "d" mint mark for the Denver mint. I am looking to acquire some and would be glad to work out a trade. Once you have your 10 posts you will be able to send P.M.'s and arrange trades if you want. You should check back at the bank for some more if you can. |

| i didn't like the design when it was being revealed, but on an actual coin it looks alright. i still wish they had chosen one with an eagle. but the shield, with its 13 stripes, is supposed to represent in some way the preservation of the union after the civil war... |
