I was going thru some online guides on Jefferson Nickels and noticed that 1971-P always have a slightly higher value- more than any Jefferson past 1960, even the S-mints. Could someone look in a red/blue book to see if that years mintages are low?
Does anyone know why they are special and do you pull them? I do when I can find them.

According to my book, they minted over 100 million of them. Maybe it is just due to less slabbed high grade coins existing for certain years or mintmarks? |

I do know that the BU rolls or OBW rolls of these can go from 25-40.00 a roll. I have 5 OBW unopened rolls of these and had to pay a pretty penny for them. I have yet to figure out exactly why the premiums for these are much higher.

Is 100 million less than normal for the mintages in that time period? And does your book say anything about it being worth more than most nickels. Truth be told you find a lot more 1971-D's than 1971-P's |
