Hello,
I am curious if anyone from Canada knows if there are certain Canadian banks which have coin machines one can use free of charge?
I would like to bring in bags of unwanted coins to be run through their machines so that I do not need to roll them all.
Thanks.

I know of none. I frequent Windsor and Sarnia. I belong to Scotia, TD, RBC and BMO, also have used 2 Credit Unions.....I've never seen a coin accepting machine at what would total probably 20 branches.
CoinStars are slow and charge 9-10%....
Where are you in Canada? Around these parts, the Canadian .999 Ni Nickel has been hunted to extinction.....I pretty much gave up on that 4 months ago, when it fell well below 5% in circulation. Some guys are still having luck and even finding around 20%...but that is not anywhere around here.
It appears that the RCM Alloy Recovery Program and serious hoarders are picking the .999Ni Nickels clean.
I would imagine this would have a serious impact on the numismatic value of the circulating .999Ni Nickels......DOES ANYONE HAVE A FEEL FOR THIS SITUATION???
Good Luck

I can't speak for Canada, but here in the States there isn't much numismatic interest in the .999Ni nickels. I spoke to a coin dealer about this subject a few days ago, and he said that there has been some lukewarm interest in Canadian nickels, but it's all been for their metal content. And fwiw, the first issue (November '07) of Worldwide Coins had a short article about the Canadian nickel, stating that dealers are buying the "five cent pieces at 10 to 15 cents each." |
