Greetings all. Newbie to the forum here, but not to coins or sorting halves.

Where I used to live I was able to get my bank to get $500 boxes (not CWR's) of halves for me, but after a while it seemed like I was going through the same coins over and over, as the silver dried up. I was dumpingat a different local bank in the Dallas, TX area (not a different branch of the same bank). I assume they were using the same armored car company? Has anyone else had this happen?

Now for the more current question: has anyone run into exorbitant charges for dumping? I moved to a town in Maine (about 10k population) about a year ago. When I asked my bank if they could get $500 boxes for me, they told me they could, but there was a $42 charge up front for ordering one (to cover shipping!), and an additional $10 charge to return them.

Also, I've seen mention of bags of halves on here...where can they be had?

Anyone who owns a business tried hooking up with an armored car company to deliver halves to your location?

Thanks in advance for all your time!

Jason

Welcome. I would think that a city the size of Dallas would allow you a fresh stock of halves but then I seldom see them leave the banks into general circulation. You must have been doing a lot of sorting.

Small town banks will often try to put on fees if they think they can get away with it. I live in a small town too but there are several major banks in the county and thus competition.

Didn't do that much sorting when I lived in Dallas, maybe a total of ten boxes or so over several months, but yeah I thought there'd be more as well. Maybe I just hit a legitimate dry spell.

With the bank charging a fee, I got the distinct impression it was more of a deterrent effort than an actual attempt to collect the fee. But that's ok, I have a small account there, and I don't think they'll charge me to make a deposit, which I'll then electronically transfer out :)
