I can see that there is copper there but not sure if the whole thing is. Are these scrapable? Any info would be great. :)

Far from an expert here, but they look like too much trouble to separate. Unless you have a barrel of them, I'd pitch them. |

Are those the center of a burner? Try sticking them in a vice and whacking the ends or just cut'em off. It looks like with one end off the other will slide out.

They came out of a microwave oven, the center is copper, I cut one open by facing it off on a lathe. The copper is most of the weight but hard to clean. |

Well if its hard to get to and difficult to clean I would leave the as is.
A scrapyard may consider them to be electric motor scrap which the last time I heard was .10 a pound. |

Lay one on concrete and hit it with a 5 pound sledge. Perhaps the junk will separate that way... Good luck :) |

That large ring of that ceramic material is most likely BeO.
Beryllium oxide unlike most materials is both a
great thermal conductor & a great electrical insulator.
Used in most microwave cavitrons for the above reason.
Per wikipedia "It is also used as a structural ceramic for high-performance microwave devices" and "BeO powder is carcinogenic if the powder is ingested or inhaled and may cause chronic beryllium disease. However, once fired into solid form, it is safe to handle as long as it is not subjected to any machining that creates dust.[6]
Beryllium oxide ceramic is not a hazardous waste under Federal law and its use is not banned, restricted or otherwise limited by any country worldwide."
Since I am somewhat crazy, I strip out the easy to get non-ceramic parts and dump the ceramic parts in the trash.
Now the mesh wire at the end is gold in color but I've never been able to determine if it is copper coated with gold or just real shiny copper. |
