I was at a friend's house earlier tonight and noticed a rather old-looking coffee can on a shelf, and of course being the coffee addict that I am, I commented on the can. Dude's mom took the can off the shelf and briefly rummaged through the contents and then dumped them on the kitchen table: It turned out to be 42 1960s-vintage P-38 can openers:

The package reads "KAY TOOL AND DIE INC., Union City, Tenn." and the engraving "U.S. KAY 1962" is on the side of the can opener. I haven't had a chance yet to see if this company is still around, but I've been looking for an inexpensive source of P-38s--something everyone should have in their preps anyway!

Very cool. I keep a p-38 on my keyring.

Each truck for my landscape service has a P38 inside the first aid kits.

I don't think uncle sam ever bought a better tool.

What a great find.

I need one, Where can they be had?

My Dad had one on his keyring as well and always spoke in high regard of its usefulness and practicality. He said he got it in Korea, sometimes he used it in the kitchen. I could see by his expression it took him to another place and time.
