First off, this forum rocks. I've been lurking & enjoying the advice, stories & comradery that fill the forum. I have been accumalating silver & gold for about a year in a half, but in the past 2 months I have caught the copper bug.... bad. I started off asking for a couple dollars worth of CWRs everytime I stopped by my local Citibank. Now I am ordering over $600 a week in penny boxes. I have joined 4 credit unions, 1 just as a dump bank that has a coinstar in the lobby (they don't smile very much when they see me). I am always very polite with my tellers & bring in my "special finds" to show some of the tellers who think I am funny/crazy for wanting so many pennies. My best finds so far have been a 1906 Indian, 1910 & 1912 Lincolns, 1943 steel cint & a 1946 King George Canadian cent. I have over $100 face value in copper & I really love this hobby. Fortunately my wife, kids & immediate family think it's cool too which is wonderful. My mom recently even picked me up $100 in pennies for my birthday!
Just wanted to say hi to all & I look forward to enjoying this great community.

Welcome Coppermonies. You are lucky your wife and family support your habit. My wife and family think I'm nuts and constantly put down my coin collecting hobby and my "playing with pennies". I don't let it stop me though I just ignore the comments. It would make it a lot more enjoyable though if some of my family actually took a little interest in it and if my wife or any of my kids would actually help me sort that would be great. |

Thanks ND! I remember when I first started buying silver my wife thought I was just starting a coin collection. I have spent many hours educating my family about fiat currency vs metals' intrinsic value. I just explained to my family that copper cents and nickels are both inflation & deflation hedges. They also enjoy hearing my stories & lengths I go to get my fix :). I take my 2 yr old son to the local coin store for silver monies (junk silver dollars) & he does play doe next to me sometimes while I sort. We both love when I excitedly yell out "Wheatie!" |

Also, I have gotten myself into a number of dust ups with my wife because I can be a little too vocal with my opinions about economics & gov't. |

I call shenanigans......
You pick $600 a week, and only have $100 worth of copper?
You either have the worst %'age in the US, or you're suppliers name ends in "bytheton" |
What's in it for the dude? |

Welcome to the forum Coppermonies. Careful about overloading any 1 dump bank (or CU). That is how you get cut off. Spread the dumps around. |

*Has over $100 worth of copper too.*
Picking up.. and sorting are two different things. Some members have been known to build a serious stockpile of unsorted boxes prior to the arrival of their first Ryedale. |

Thanks twentybox & HoardCopperByTheTon! I really am happy to be apart of this community. Here is a pic of my favorite finds so far.
 (1910, 1912, 1917, 1906, 1943 & 1946). The 1910 is in pretty poor condition, but I still got really excited when I found it =) |

As I said before I just started sorting copper 2 months ago. I started off the first month with just CWRs & then started placing orders for the $25 dollar boxes. Last week I was able to fill orders of $600 in pennies. I haven't sorted even half of the boxes I have so far (I'm a hand sorter for now), but figure it's best to stock up on as many possible boxes now because the % of copper is just going to keep going down from here. I love silver & the little gold I have, but sorting for copper is my addiction. I am trying to not abuse my one CU dump coinstar, but I am very polite & make sure to keep a decent balance in my account. I will diversify dump spots as I continue along =). |

Always a good idea to stack up a few boxes so you have some to sort later.

What part of CA do you hoard in? Hope you don't get any of my dumps. |

HCBTT, I've seen that pic quite a few times on here...& I drool each & every time I see it (unsorted penny boxes, mmmmmm yeaaaahhhh) =). I live in Bay Area, CA... so I think I am in your drop zone or close to it. Hopefully, we only cross paths with copper in our hands & zinc in the bankers vaults. |

I live in the Bay Area also. There are a few of us up here. Once you build up a good stack of unsorted boxes maybe you can run them through one of my machines. It would be funny if the CU you use with the Coinstar is the same one I occasionally use. |
