Wow, that is like being invited to the Jedi temple! If the CU gave you $50 to start up a Free Checking account I believe it is =) |

If you aren't too busy Tuesday night.. there is a great coin club meeting at the Library where they spelled some of the words wrong. |

At the CU they treat me fine. I only dump there about once a month though. Most banks are OK also.. since I bring them in machine rolled and boxed and try to spread the volume out across several banks. I learned early on about how one needs to spread the dumps around after I got cut off for dumping $3k in a week at the local BofA. |

It is hard for me to stand there and feed that CoinStar at the CU when I know I have machines at home that will count the pennies 10 times as fast. |

lol $3k in pennies! That would have been something to see the looks on their faces. Did they just tell you they couldn't accept it or what? I spread my wrapped roll dumps (which are $50 or less) to Citibanks in the area & dump at the CU machine. I don't have enough zincs to really give me a problem right now. If I used your machine, then I'd probably have to get very creative. I still can't figure out the riddle, is the library close to the refinaries, P hill or the creek or am I way off base? |

I was only bringing it in 12 bags ($600) a day.. every day.. lol. I thought for sure when they told me the manager wanted to talk to me that he was going to offer me a low interest loan.
I think we use the same CU.. but different branches. The one I use is located in the town where all the residents glow in the dark. |

When I got my first automatic rolling machine I showed up at a WF with 2300 rolls of pennies. You should have seen the look on their faces. There was some muttering of the "F" word. I scaled back immediately after that. |

Do you sort through your copper for wheats/indians/foreign coins or just go for the most copper in the world =) |

I go for copper capture first. I figure as long as I have captured the copper.. I can always sort out the wheats and Indians later when there are no copper cents to sort for. |

lol Right on! I think along the same lines...although microscopic in comparision. Get as much as you can now while the getting is still good, they're still in your possession now even though they haven't been discovered. |

welcome to the forum copper-M! You're going to find out ever-increasingly that the folks at this forum are not only generous with their time and advice, but also friendly, witty, patriotic, historically and politically informed...and oh, yeah...somewhat obsessively neurotic. |

By the way HoardCopperbytheTon, that was one impressive photo! If you don't mind me asking, how many tons is your copper hoard? |

First off, this forum rocks. I've been lurking & enjoying the advice, stories & comradery that fill the forum. I have been accumalating silver & gold for about a year in a half, but in the past 2 months I have caught the copper bug.... bad. I started off asking for a couple dollars worth of CWRs everytime I stopped by my local Citibank. Now I am ordering over $600 a week in penny boxes. I have joined 4 credit unions, 1 just as a dump bank that has a coinstar in the lobby (they don't smile very much when they see me). I am always very polite with my tellers & bring in my "special finds" to show some of the tellers who think I am funny/crazy for wanting so many pennies. My best finds so far have been a 1906 Indian, 1910 & 1912 Lincolns, 1943 steel cint & a 1946 King George Canadian cent. I have over $100 face value in copper & I really love this hobby. Fortunately my wife, kids & immediate family think it's cool too which is wonderful. My mom recently even picked me up $100 in pennies for my birthday!
Just wanted to say hi to all & I look forward to enjoying this great community.
Coppermonies...welcome! You have a very thoughtful mom. I think almost all of us would love a birthday gift like you received. My mother-in-law gave me $20.00 for my last birthday and I turned around and used it to buy pennies to sort.
That's a nice looking steel penny too. Until recently at some coin shows, I never really knew that steel pennies and war nickels could look so nice. Any that I have ever found look like they've been through tough times before they reached my hands.
Enjoy your coin searches, everyone. |

i'm curious how that conversation went...was it just, 'yeah we can't handle the volume you bring in so please stop it?'

Welcome aboard Coppermonies. Your enthusiasm is palpable. Consider yourself lucky for scoring an Indian Head so early in your career. It took me over $750 face value before I scored my first. As others have noted, keep a low profile and don't over-burden any particular branch with your hobby. Best of luck. |

Hi! Also very new here. Been hoarding pennies for about 2 months. Just got $60 worth today. Went through $10 of it already. Very addicting hobby I must say. Just found a source bank!! Going to take it easy at first though not to ruin my luck. Maybe $50 a week to start off with then see what they will let me go to. |
