688,241,241,807 is how many individual business strike coins that have been reported by the US Mint between 1793 and 2009.
348,366,168,413 of those coins were minted between 1988 and 2009. The remaining years, 1793-1987 account for 339,875,073,394 coins.
Slightly more coins were minted in the last 22 years than in the 195 years before it!

It would have to be a really big prize, maybe a pot, every one that guesses has to put a x$x in. And everyone would have to have a lot of patience to find out the verdict! |

Cerulean...very interesting facts! Thanks for posting this info.
If it hadn't been for the economic slow-down that prompted so many people to empty their coin jars out and thus cause the mint to "mint" less coins the last couple of years, my guess would have been about 10 years for the next 350B coins to have been minted.

Unless imposed by the state, I do not see that happening. Cash is good for certain things, such as situations requiring anonymity, and "one time deals", where the seller wants to be assured that he is not getting ripped, as could be possible with fake checks, a stolen credit/debit card, fake money order, etc. |
