And he that hath lyberte ought to kepe hit wel / For nothyng is better than lyberte / For lyberte shold not be wel sold for alle the gold and syluer of all the world. -Caxton's edition of Aesop's Fables, 1484
I've gotten SO tired of watching silver try to rally and then consistently getting crushed by the manipulators... that I'm really glad I switched to copper. Trying to fill an album without cheating (no buying) by searching (and stockpiling the sorted coppers for later profit) is very time-consuming and gives me something enjoyable to do as we deplete the above-ground silver stores... which is the ONLY thing that will stop the manipulations. Thank God for the forum, it helps maintain my sanity (although Thogey will debate that )
I think the best method is to BUY for the long haul. BUYing incrementally should smooth out the ups and downs. It's sort of like dollar cost averaging with stocks and mutual funds. I'm retired; I guess I'll be BUYing PMs and searching for SILVERs until my eyes give out some day.
On a side note, I put away a lot of coppers a long time ago (when the pennies were all 100% copper and you didn't have to search) and just recently got a couple penny boxes at the bank. I had forgotton how relaxing it is to hand sort pennies. Also, it's a good way to procure penny boxes to store my old coppers.
The things that will destroy America are prosperity-at-any-price, peace-at-any-price, safety-first instead of duty-first, the love of soft living, and the get-rich-quick theory of life. – Theodore Roosevelt
I started buying at $4.50 an ounce in 2003 and kept adding and adding, finally stopped at $13.50 last summer. Enough is enough. Silver is for retirement, copper is for fun. And, yeah Bill, it is relaxing, isn't it?
