So what is the deal with this penny? Is it chemically treated or hopefully something a bit cooler? Just pulled it out of a NFStrings box. It has a proof like finish on it and is amazingly silver. I put it next to a normal to show its not just bad lighting in the photo.

it is likely zinc, possibly coated with mercury. I've found a half dozen like that. If it weighs 2.5grams, it is coated zinc, and not some strange planchet
Coated zinc as in someone did some science experiment at home or something?
Probably. Theirs a slew of chemicals that will turn pennies different colors temporarily.
One of my old middle school teachers made one whole lab experiment into how to make Pennies turn gold with this one chemical and some heat from a bunsen burner.
Well I have a few that were chemically modified in the past, but upon close inspection you can tell there is something up. This one is in really super shape and I was hoping. Unfortunately it really is nothing special. I weighed it today and it was a shade over the normal 2.5 grams
