So, I'm working up in Hawthorne, Nevada for a couple of weeks and end up having dinner tonight in the only casino in town (the food is good and not to expensive) and decide to drop $20.00 in the Cash Express Penny machine. I'm down to $0.75 and the machine gives a little train whistle. I've won some kind of bonus game. The reels start spinning and it tells me to press the buttons to stop the reels. As I do so, each reel shows a image of a train. I look up on the board above and it shows the prizes for the differnt totals: 36 or less wins the Mini Jackpot $5.50, 37-45 wins the Minor Jackpot $12.33, 46-49 wins the Major Jackpot $104.75 and 50+ wins the Grand Prize $2665.33. It then starts changing the trains into numbers: 10, 10, 11, 11, 10 for a total of 52, I almost freaked out. Who Hoo!!!

When I went to claim my prize I asked the teller if I could get paid in halves. She said she only had $750 in halves. Of course I told her I would take them. It ended up they had $920 in halves and I took them all. It looks like with the economy the way it is, the casino had recently closed all of their table games and laid off all of the dealers. I gave each of the casino people that helped me a $20.00 tip. After getting the halves, I immediately went back to the hotel and tore all of them open. Final total was:

1 1945 Walker
1 1960 Franklin
1 1963 Franklin
3 1967 40% Kennedys
5 1968 40% Kennedys
2 1969 40% Kennedys

Not to bad.

This is actually the first time I've ever bought halves and I have to say, every time I saw the shiney edge of a silver half my heart beat a little faster. The extra $2600 didn't hurt either.

When I get home this weekend I plan to hit the coin shop and invest some of the winnings. Luckily, my credit union has a coin counter in the lobby that deposits the coins directly into my savings account so I'll have that money to buy more silver with too.

Great story! Thanks for sharing!

One other question-Were the halves you got all slicks from running through the slots or were they just there for the blackjack payouts?

They didn't use them for slots, they were only used for Blackjack. I already pulled out a couple dozen NIFC's and some Circulated Proofs. They all look pretty good actually. I plan to date sort when I get home and fill out my coin folder.

I'm half way through hand sorting by date and have filled all but 7 holes in my Kennedy half binder. I've also found (1) 1992S Proof so far.

Nice strike. I love winning jackpots on slot machines. Wise to get their half dollars as well.

Just my two cents!
