One of my patients learned of my interest in sorting copper cents. He told me he had a bunch at home and he wanted to "give them to me." I dismissed it as just talk, and a couple of weeks went by. He brought them in today. After a quick look, I told him I couldn't accept them as a gift, but would buy them if he wanted to dispose of them. He kept insisting he had no use for them (they were given to him when his vision was better). He said he had originally given a friend in need of money $40 for them. I went back and did a quick inventory and then explained that, if he was satisfied it was a fair offer, that I was interested in buying the lot for $70. There's a LOT of stuff in this box (three folders of undated nickels, sixty or seventy foreign coins I have no idea how to value, a 1964 proof set, and an 1890's type set), but I told him I was mainly interested in the $4.85 worth of silver face and the penny albums. Included were six rolls of wheaties, with the following: 1911,1916d,1919 x 3,1919s,1920,1920d, 1920s,1925,1925d,1926,1927s,1928,1929,1929s,1930,1934 x 2,1935 x 2,1935d, 1936 x 2, 1936d, 1936s,1937 x 3, 1937d, 1938 x 2, 1939. Two wheat rolls were all one date 1941s, and the other 1954s. Don't have a clue what the foreigners are worth, but I'll post those on another thread. I know this doesn't count as a "find," but still I was happy with the purchase... even if alot of the early wheaties are quite worn. btw, I gave him $50 at first, then added another $20 to sweeten the pot after I found out what else was in the box. Do you think this was a win-win?

the silver and the 3 rolls of wheats is worth $70. Everything else is just gravy. If he is happy, and you are happy, that is all that matters. He wanted to give you the stuff for free. He told you he paid $40 for the lot, so he is probably very happy with the $70. |
You don't have to be the BEST you just have to be.......SLICK
