I found a blank ZINC penny planchet today. It fell out of my coin counter while I was counting out bags. It is slightly smaller than a stamped penny. I guess when it is struck it flattens it out a little making it the correct diameter. It weighs true at 2.5grams.

Hey Slickeast -
Thats a cool find. Is it flat like a slug or does it have some kind of shape to it?
Happy hunting all! |

| Hey slick, I found one a while back also. Congrats! However, my blank cent was the correct size for a penny. Mine came out of a bank wrapped roll. Not sure why yours isn't the same size. |

Easily 3 million pennies. Maybe 5 million. I wouldn't have found it if it had not fell into the reject cup on my coin counter. It is a smidge smaller in diameter than a stamped and that is the only reason it fell out.
They are going for about 1 buck on e-bay. |

Cool,
I was looking at one the other day in coin shop and was wishing that I could find one.
I guess that I need to go through another 4 million pennies before I find mine. |

I have one as well. They are so darn hard to find you would think they would be worth more than a dollar until you realize that BILLIONS of those planchets at the mint that do not find their way out to the public very often.
good job on the find
On a side note has anyone ever found a copper one? |

highroller, i am looking for a gold Indian in my pennies, but have not found one yet.
In the last week I found a Franklin (1st one) A spy half. A blank zink.
Nothing too odd, but it makes searching that much more fun.

Neat find. I found one in the 4th or 5th box I sorted, it was zinc too. Haven't seen one since though. If only they would date them they would be more valuable :)
Bart: the one I found had a little bit of a rim because it had been through the "upset mill" I am pretty sure that before that they are called blanks and after that they are called planchets. As always, You must be logged in to see this link. |

| Since I have been sorting I have gotten six or seven. A few days ago O found a copper penny error. It was blank except for what looked like a addition, where it had partial one cent on it. |

The ones that have a small rim and the size of a regular cent are the harder ones to find and usually get more from collectors. |

I, too, am lucky. I found a copper one after only a few bags of cents. I think it is one of the benefits of hand-sorting. I hope everyone finds at least one CU blank! Good luck! |

Saw several at small coin show on Sat. Next show may buy at the $1.00 level as I need to sort at least another 3,800,000 to find one. Not in this life time as I'm a happy hand sorter with now a few 68# buys. |
