Where are these coins from and are they silver? Dated 1912 confoederatio helvetica

The Swiss ½, 1, 2 and 5 Franc coins were Ag in 1912. It sounds like you have a 5F, Of the aforementioned coins, the 5F actually had Confoederatio Helvetica struck on it.

There are a few folks more up on these than me, they can confirm or correct me.

I bought four of these coins. Dated from 1912 to 1969. Three0 have 20 on the reverse and one has 10.

Blugill is correct on the SILVER coins, all .900 fine SILVER. However, there are the 5, 10, 20 Rappen Swiss coins of 1912 which bear the Confoederatio Helvetica legend too. The 5 and 10 are copper-nickel, and the 20 Rappen is pure nickel.

I stand corrected.

But only the 5F was .900 fine. The rest were .835 fine, the 5F was .835 fine starting in '31
