What I'm saying is if the weight is exact, we know the whole planchet is there.

I would think if that's the case it's most likely a mint error rather than someone's modification.

I make coin rings by hand and it doesn't look like any I have made.

How ever, if it was done by rollers, mechanicly, you could account for both the uniform circumference, the Squareness of the cent rim and the convex-ness of the quarter.

I have 3 of them. Somebody just put the coin in some kind of rolling machine. That moves some of the metal into the thicker than normal rim you're seeing.



I found all 3 of mine in dime rolls.
