Agreed there are many many many factors that inpact your answer, but in a real TEOTWAWKI situation, and you were in no real present danger (as in The End of The World was not at your doorstep.) What would you do ??? Hunker down and hold on tight, hop in your vehicle and head for the hills, or ???

| I'm prepping to hunker down and hang on while praying for the Lord to give me wisdom and to use me for His glory in the middle of chaos, especially since at this point bugging-out won't be an option for me. Since my fiancee is disabled, I'm planning to stay right where I am and assemble all of my preps as close to my location as possible. Having said that, I'm also working on a plan to get myself, my fiancee and any other family members out of Dodge if things get bad enough that the situation warrants it. |

Unless you live in an area where a natural disaster is likely to take place (earthquake zone, flood zone, landslide zone, hurricane region, etc.) an EOTWAWKI situation occurs at a slow pace. We read the news about how the middle class is being eroded, the dollar is dropping, the debt is out of control and the like, these exact same things were fretted over back in 2001, 1995, 1985, 1970 and possibly earlier than that. The crash is a slow motion train wreck with us trapped onboard one of the train cars, but with the wreck happening in slow motion it gives us time to prepare.
When will the final breaking point occur sending the US into chaos? That is the million dollar question, though we can gauge what may happen here by what has happened overseas. Zimbabwe didn’t turn into hyperinflation land overnight, it took years for this to happen. The nations in South America didn’t turn into third world nations with a handful of rich, a handful of middle class and 95% poor in a year. The process was gradual taking decades.
If I were to guess, I would say we have 5 years before TEOTWAWKI occurs, and that is if other nations don’t intervene and help the US. Considering so many nations are tied to the US as their main destination to sell products, and so many nations have US Dollars in their reserves, a collapse of the US means a collapse of many other nations too (someone once called it a murder suicide pact.)
Instead of a bang it will be a whimper with the US getting worse and worse as years and decades go on.
Ending on a message of hope (if you can call it that) remember that the future favors the prepared. Not everyone in third world hyperinflation land is dirt poor, the prepared and the shrewd prosper, the prepared who have the means to leave do so with their fortunes mostly intact and go to friendlier less inflationary lands while the shrewd find businesses that the poor need to survive.
What would be an example of a business for the shrewd to conduct?
Selling pharmacy items (band aids, rubbing alcohol, aspirin, etc.) trading in alcohol or cigarettes (small amounts) selling things people need that today are considered the bare essentials that are in short supply during hyperinflation. |

The two things I refuse to part with are books and music. I've been buying a steady stream of books on prep topics, I just haven't had much time to read them. But yeah, like you said, Beau, anytime you can get a copy of books that are educational and entertaining relating to prepping, pick 'em up!
Having said that, make sure you have a wide variety of books on topics you enjoy reading, not just a handful of one or two genres or topics. I have hundreds of books on religious topics, political topics, humor, trivia and a mishmash of just about everything. |

Or a terrorist event on a large scale ???
Things could get out of control quickly.
The possibilities are not as remote as one might think.
