I recently purchased this 1844-o half dollar and the coin has a error. the coin was minted on a welded planchet, and it has some nick marks that look to be file marks that was done before the coin was minted. the coin does have two nicks filed in the rim to get the weight right which was common practice. the coin is in almost uncirculated condition eg. no wear,a beautiful coin to see. I took the coin to a coin shop and was told the file nicks would make the coin worthless, the details on this coin is just about perfect, and he insinuated the weld lines were added after minting and you can plainly see it was minted over the weld. any comments about your thoughts would be appreciated.
